I am a graduate of LWHS. And now with the separation that has occurred in our community between McLaughlin Middle School parents and students with Bok Academy parents and students how do you plan on healing and mending this wedge? My child is a resident of Lake Wales and although he was a student at McLaughlin Middle School ((with a 3.5 GPA, in the orchestra, in the air Honor Society, amongst other things)) how do I know as a parent my child will be given the opportunity to attend and graduate from LWHS? My child should not be judged, mistreated or labeled because he attended McLaughlin Middle School. Why wasn’t he acted into Bok, I’m glad you asked, it was never a “reason” except he was put on the waiting list! Will he have the opportunity to attend the school of his choice, and hometown?

McLaughlin Middle has a big ESE population. What are your plans to accommodate those children (who are already there and deserve to be there) if taken over by Bok North?

McLaughlin is the only public middle school on the eastern part of Polk County (Haines City, Dundee, Winter Haven, and Lake Wales) with detailed ESE help. A third of their student population is McKay transfers for ESE help. All other public middle schools on eastern county are turn around schools, choice magnet, private or charter and do not have ESE opportunities., or very limited ones (inclusion only where para assists in classroom). McLaughlin has reading coaches, assistive technology, teachers specialized in academic disabilities, various ESE support classes, inclusion, and self contained. What about these students?

Students who are currently enrolled at McLaughlin Middle School, and are in the jurisdiction of LWHS, will they have a fair opportunity to be accepted into LWHS? Or will they be told as students in the previous years that they’ll have to go to Bartow, Lake Region, Frostproof because of “no room” at LWHS. Although all the students in the same years who attended Bok were accepted?
And yes in previous years this has occurred!!

Have qualified teachers, and if the school can't avoid using substitute teachers make them follow the class material to maintain the kids working on track. thanks

In previous years at LWHS students who attended non charter McLaughlin Middle School instead of Bok were not selected for different student clubs, positions, and/or were singled out because they did not attend Bok (by the administration, teachers, staff, parents, and students). How does LWHS administration, teachers and staff plan to include students who are coming from McLaughlin?

Students who attend McLaughlin Middle School are both academic and athletic scholars; however, have been labeled because they were either 1- not accepted into Bok or 2- (parent) did not apply for Bok. Will they be treated fairly? If it is a myth that Bok is the best school and to follow with LWHS - will the students who attended McLaughlin now have the opportunity to have a better opportunity at LWHS although they are not charter (McLaughlin), a past student of Bok, or the parent isn’t a financial donor? Will the students be treated fair!!!! And what I am saying by “fair” is that they are accepted into LWHS, not labeled, and allowed to participate in (all chosen/qualified for) student-body activities (sports, honors, music, debate teams)?
