Citizen Police Academy Program
The Citizen Police Academy Program is highly beneficial in creating public awareness and appreciation of law enforcement. Participants complete 40 hours of formal law enforcement training. Academy graduates often become community advocates for the department and serve a valuable role in our recruiting effort. Internship Program
The Internship Program encourages future involvement in criminal justice or public administration by familiarizing students with the challenges and rewards of public service. Additionally, it provides the Police Department with an infusion of dedication, energy and idealism. The Police Department interns are a diverse group of current undergraduate and graduate students that may receive college credit for their participation.

They come from across the nation, attend public and private colleges and universities, and major in subjects ranging from criminology to public administration. For more information about the Internship Program, please contact Judi Gladue at 863-678-4223, ext. 260.
Public Safety Cadet Corps Program
The Public Safety Cadet Corps Program is an effort between the Lake Wales Fire and Police Departments to attract youth to the public safety discipline. The Public Safety Cadet Corps is for youth ages 14-18 who have a desire to learn about the Fire Department and Police Department.

The objectives of the Public Safety Cadet program are to introduce youth to the public safety career, develop in them a sense of pride, patriotism, courage, and self-reliance, and to maintain an environment free of drugs and gangs.
