The City Manager is the City's Chief Administrative Officer and is responsible for all city operations, capital assets, and financial resources.
James Slaton began his tenure with the City of Lake Wales in 2005 and is currently City Manager, previously serving as the Deputy City Manager, Assistant City Manager, Director of Public Services, Director of Support Services, Director of Information Technology, and Computer Network Administrator. Mr. Slaton is a member of the International City/County Management Association, the Florida City and County Management Association, and the American Public Works Association. James holds a Master of Science degree in Management and Leadership, a Bachelor of Applied Science degree in Public Administration, and an Associate of Science degree in Computer Network Engineering Systems. Mr. Slaton is a 2019 graduate of Leadership ICMA and completed the University of Virginia's Senior Executive Institute in 2018. James is an alumnus of both Leadership Polk and Leadership Lake Wales.
