A broad 8-bay veranda wraps the sides of this frame vernacular residence, located at 3 N Lake Shore Boulevard.. The gable end of a rather steeply pitched roof faces the street. The front facade of the building offers an unusual division of windows beneath the roof line.
In the progression of vernacular residential design from the mid-nineteenth to the mid-20th centuries, buildings assumed increasingly horizontal proportions. This residence reflects the vertical emphasis common to an earlier period.
