The City of Lake Wales is established for the benefit of its citizens and shall provide for their health, welfare and safety. Special attention shall be devoted to improving the City's appearance, maintaining public facilities and infrastructure, and ensuring citizen safety and quality of life via a fair and equitable system of citizen involvement and input. Moreover, the City shall provide a positive administration of laws and ordinances governing individual activities and requests. It is the intention of the City not to be an obstacle, but to facilitate solutions to problems and respond to needs while always serving the best interest of the public.

MOBILE OUTREACH CLINIC
The James A. Haley Veterans' Hospital Mobile Outreach Clinic will be located in the parking lot of the Municipal Admininstration Building at 201 W. Central Avenue from 10:00 a.m. to 2:00 p.m. on every other Tuesday. Any qualified veteran can enroll but will need to bring the DD214 and picture ID or current VA medical card. Available services will include: non-emergency care, wellness checks, health and fitness, educational material on DAV, VBA, and My Healthy Vet web-based system. GULF OIL SPILL INFORMATION
For those seeking information about the BP Deepwater Horizon oil spill in the Gulf of Mexico and the clean-up efforts, the University of South Florida has made its Gulf Oil Spill Information Center available on-line.

DISASTER PREPAREDNESS
It is the policy of the Polk County Emergency Management Division to recommend in-place shelter as the primary option during a disaster. For those unable to remain in place, especially those in mobile homes, information about emergency shelters is available at the Polk County Disaster Preparation web site. Also available on this web site are the things that residents need to know and need to do in preparing for hurricane season.

CITY CHARTER REVIEW IS UNDERWAY
Follow the progress of the Charter Review Committee as it undertakes revision of the City Charter. A report to the City Commission is due in December 2010 with recommended changes to be placed on the April 5, 2011 ballot for approval by the voters. Click here.

LAKE WALES VETERAN'S MEMORIAL
The community now has the opportunity to purchase "Bricks of Honor" to pay tribute to veterans (living or deceased) of the Armed Forces of the United States. Each brick may contain the veteran's name, service, rank, and service years engraved on a 6" by 9" red brick paver to be placed around the walkway of the Lake Wales Veteran's Memorial. UTILITY LIFELINE ASSISTANCE PROGRAM
The Lifeline Program was developed to aid Lake Wales' low-income residential water and sewer customers. If eligible for the program, a customer will receive a credit on his or her monthly utility bill that reduces the bill by an amount equal to the base charge for household water and sewer services. LIMITED INCOME SENIOR EXEMPTION
Effective January 1, 2007, homeowners who qualify for the regular homestead exemption are eligible for up to $25,000 additional exemption from city ad valorem taxes if they are 65 years of age or older and if they have a total household adjusted gross income that does not exceed the limit set by the state during the previous tax year. MUNICIPAL FINE ARTS SHOW
The Lake Wales Arts Council and the City of Lake Wales present the Municipal Fine Arts Show. Art works by a variety of local artists are displayed in the lobby and hallways of the Municipal Administration Building which is open to the public Monday thru Friday from 8:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. Exhibits are changed quarterly. |
